Local councils have a vital role in educating residents about the need for climate emergency action and pressuring other levels of government. Darebin Council was the first municipality in the world to declare a climate emergency and recently launched the second Climate Emergency Plan. However, much more needs to be done to help residents with the transition to renewable energy and electrification, to boost active transport and increase tree cover and vegetation.
We are also concerned at the level of conflict within the current Council which has led to the appointment of monitors. This has come at great expense to the Darebin community and effects Council's ability to deliver on climate action and other important community priorities.
This forum is your opportunity to ask candidates what action they will take on climate and improving Council's decision making processes.
The forum will start with a plenary session and then be split into breakout rooms for each ward so residents can ask questions of their own candidates. Please make sure you know which ward you are in before coming to the meeting.
Which ward am I in? Find out here so can go to the right one.
